Ok so I have many topics that I would like to talk about in my essay, but I just need to figure a way to get a thesis that covers over all of my ideas. I first decided that I want to write about the use of technology in Brave New World’s society and how it plays such a vital role in the way that the people live their lives. Then I would pull text from 1984 to show how this society contrasts from Brave New World. They are very different because 1984 bands the people from any form of technology and they believe it to be bad and corrupt, while Brave New World is all about advancing in technology. The second idea that I have is to compare Brave New World to Postmodernism and 1984. I believe that in some way Brave New World manipulates their people into doing weird and bizarre things. For instance, Huxley talks about how two people can not be together forever and that they can only have “one night stands” or that everyone has to believe what the government is telling them to believe. This is very similar to what Postmodernism explains about narratives. Narratives are told to a group of people to explain the way they live or do things. In 1984, the government forces people to forget the past and to only believe what Big Brother is telling them. They only know what the government tells them because that’s all they have ever been told. In all three books, the people or the societies are being manipulated into believing different things that the government thinks is true.
My thesis is very ruff because I still need to finish the book and I still need to understand the entire meaning of the overall book.
In Huxley’s Brave New World, she states how the people are controlled by the government and how technology plays an important role in society.

Court up-n-down..
ReplyDelete"1984 bands the people from any form of technology and they believe it to be bad and corrupt, while Brave New World is all about advancing in technology." When you compared 1984 and Brave New World and talked about how they are similar but yet totally opposite was very interesting. Hmm... Ummm Your point of view on Postmodernism and 1984.. also kind of caught my attention. The fact that in 1984 the governmnet tries to destory or get rid of past and where as in Postmodernism..... myths and narratives from long ago are being past down as a meaning for why somehting happens.... (reasons... explanations)
The way you compared Brave New World to the other texts we have read was a good idea.. it also gave me ideas..
:)
see you in class tomorrow!
For starters, I think you should give some though to naming your blogs, maybe something unique or interesting just to get the mood going. “Untitled” is kind of boring, and I know you are way more creative than that. Anyways, I would like to mention your idea comparing Brave New World to 1984. I thought it was very interesting how you mentioned their technological differences which I did not really think about. I always saw these two societies as being parallel with one another due to their abilities to manipulate society. Maybe you can enlighten me more about this comparison in class? Your comparison between Brave New World and Postmodernism was also very interesting. I guess it is true that what people learn growing older and the experiences they have create their morals and ideals of wrong and right. Who are we to tell them what they are doing is wrong when they grew up their entire life seeing and living this way? Those living in Brave New World’s society would likely see us the same way we view them. In the end, this was a well written post Conchita. Your thesis does sound like what we were talking about in class on block in regards to a thesis without an argument, although you did say it was a little rough. I just want to make sure that you write a really good essay this up coming week with a well stated thesis. I will not be there tomorrow, so I will be texting you later about what we did in class! Do not miss me too much…
ReplyDeleteNicely said i must say and i love all your explanations. Such as "They are very different because 1984 bands the people from any form of technology and they believe it to be bad and corrupt, while Brave New World is all about advancing in technology." I never really thought about it that way and it's true about how they try to make the people in 1984 less intelligent while in the Brave New World they try to increase the people's thinking and make them similar to robots. Plus good idea about how narratives are like the government and they tell us who we are and what to believe. It's all in the power of the person who is telling it and it seems to me that the government in 1984 and Brave New World likes to control and manipulate the society. Do you think you can control society? LOL you don't have to answer that but i was jw. Any who, good jos relating all the 3 books together and awesome thesis. YOU ROCK this BLOG! You besta miss Andrew and i on friday and do not do anything naughty!!!!! ;)
