Brave New World is a different book. It is similar to 1984 in the way that the people are being controlled. For example, the people “were forced to feel strongly. And feeling strongly, how could they be stable (41)?” Apparently, if a person feels too strongly about a subject or an idea, that person will either end up insane or committing suicide. This lifestyle that the people live by HAS to be normal. They can not have a personality that has individuality. People have to be smart, but not to smart, or they have to be average. There is no acceptance for anything in between or below.
I think this society would be horrible to live in. Even though everyone person is their own person, he/ she can not have their own opinions, or have distinct qualities that define them. They can not do what they really want to do with their lives. It is however, somewhat of an improvement. More people are being born and they can live for longer, but for the most part it is a disgrace. At young ages the people are brain-washed into thinking ridiculous things, like that books are bad. This world is corrupted in the way that new technology is making them seem more superior but is really just making their society more complex and ridiculous. Not only are the people similar, but they will be punished if they want to be different.
Even though this world is technologically advanced, it still suffers. It suffers in the way our world thrives. Our world is good because everyone has a mind of his/ her own and everyone can have his/ her own opinions. In Brave New World the society can only function if every person obeys all of the rules. No one can rebel. Moreover, our world has freedom of speech, which gives us the right to say anything. Our two worlds are different and they both have some advantages and disadvantages over the other.

  1. Conchita!! I am totally commenting on your blog even though you practically begged me not to. Hehehe… Well, let’s get started on your post. First of all, I would like to mention that I totally related this Brave New World book to 1984 too! I guess great minds do think alike. I saw it more as a power struggle rather than a scheme of manipulation. In Brave New World, the Alphas were more dominant and powerful than all of those under them; this includes the Betas, Gammas, Deltas, and Epsilons. In 1984, you have the Party controlling all of its citizens in order to keep their power over the “utopia” they have created. Actually now that I think about it, they are pretty much the same, considering how manipulation is force that drives people to keep or gain power. Anyways, your post is written exceptionally well. I do see more advantaged to this type of reproduction though. Babies can be born free from diseases and have immunities that will never allow them to become sick. This technology can also eliminate unwanted DNA sequences from appearing in the human genome, such as disabilities mentally and physically. All in all, you did some good work Conchita. I’m glad to be sitting next to you in class. I think, for one day, you should be the light and door person just to change things up. We’ll talk about it more later.

  2. COURT...
    :)
Your blog was very very interserting to read. I loved it when you compared our world with Brave New World... you brought up really good points. "Freedom of speech" .. "everyone has his/her opinions." VERY NICE! I agree with you 100 percent living in this kind of society would be horrible. Eventhough having babies born without any life threatening diseases or poor health would be a plus...( thanxs andrew) I still think having 80-100 people look alike would be pretty werid. I always wondered how it would be like to have a twin but 80 people that look like me YEA NOT GONNA BE COOL! UMM Ooo relating this back to 1984 i agree with you in how both worlds, the people are being "controlled" by a higher authority or force. In 1984 the citizens of Oceania were controlled big Big Brother and in Brave New World they are being controlled by Alpas. Speaking of the Alpas don't you just disagree with how they get to make the choices for all the lower classes. For example, they get to decide which group the babies belong to before they are born; Betas, Gammas, Deltas, and Epsilons.
    :p
    GoOd WoRk!
Dont worry i will have you back if you dont want to be the light and door person court...

  3. Nice choice of thoughts. I find this similar to 1984 as well, and what can go wrong with everyone being the same? EVERYTHING can go wrong and i concur with the fact that we have freedom and all that but in the brave new world they don't. Even though the life they have is trying to progress into advance technology it doesn't mean that everyone is happy and no one can even be different which can really be boring. i like your thinking and how you mention that “were forced to feel strongly. And feeling strongly, how could they be stable (41)?". It just shows how controlling they can be and no one wants to live in a world like that. Lets make our own world Courtney!! =)

Just you and me....against the world..X3
